After eighteen months in the planning, from May 20th to 26th 2000, EGRA held an historical exhibition in the Ocean Suite of the former Manor House of Highdown School. Mayor, Cllr Bob Green officially opened the event, which was visited by over 1000 people. There was a preview hour where all the older generation, with special early memories of the area, congregated. The exhibits themselves included some photos from an earlier display held at the school, and we were grateful to receive contributions form other sources - Reading Library and the Berkshire Record Office, as well as individual families.

The suite was divided into two, one, Emmer Green Past and Present, devoted to village life in days gone by and the other focused on all the other groups and communities in the area Scouts, Guides, Schools, WI, Townswomen's Guild, Reading Golf Club, BBC Monitoring Station, Friends of Clayfield Copse.
With the help of Jane Moody of Highdown School, a website was set up, which can still be accessed at www.highdown.reading.sch.uk/emmergreen.
We also researched and published a brochure to accompany the exhibition.
The celebrations were made possible with a grant form the Millennium Festival Awards for All. Particular thanks go to headteacher Tim Royle and staff from Highdown.
